Dear ‘Higher-Energy Seeking’ Friend; |
Yes, sometimes it can be difficult to make it through the entire day. More than
‘sometimes’…in fact, quite often?
That sluggish feeling usually strikes mid-day. The afternoon slump! At times,
it feels like you hit a brick wall. The morning caffeine buzz has worn off, maybe
you had to skip lunch, or maybe lunch wasn’t exactly the healthiest selection of
foods. In any case, the afternoon really drags!
Then when you get home from work…it seems as if you only have enough energy to sit
and “veg-out”. You might make it to the gym occasionally, but not consistently like
you had intended when you joined the health club. Just not enough energy.
And then you find that extra pound or two creeping on. Before you know it, it’s
more like 5 to 10 pounds. All your clothes seem to be “shrinking”.
You’ve tried vitamins and other supplements, but they didn’t give you the results
you were looking for. Energy drinks, like Red Bull – Yeah, right! A quick spurt
of energy followed by a harder crash. And all that caffeine and sugar your body
has to deal with…AND THE CALORIES!
Add to that the stress you feel each day. |
Stress can zap you of your energy and, worse yet, destroy your immune system.
Virtually every disease and every ailment
can be traced back to a mineral deficiency.
No one can argue that with the proper nutrition you just flat-out feel better.
You have a
much higher level of energy, and you can mount a much stronger defense against any
disease…even the most serious, like Cancer and Heart Disease. |
Without an adequate supply and range of nutrients, you just don’t have the necessary
fuel to operate at a consistently high level of energy.
And as for your immune system? It can’t perform at its peak level without the required
fuel. And when it doesn’t perform optimally, bad things can then happen to you..
“So what’s the answer? How do I get the right nutrition in today’s ‘fast-food’ society,
where the quality and nutritional potency of our food supply is diminishing? How
can I boost my energy level and immune system, and fight those terrible diseases?” |
It’s really simple…Turn to Nature to Shape Your Health.
"This little berry [Acai] is one of the
most nutritious and powerful foods in the world."
– Oprah Winfrey Show: Nov 10, 2004
“…Harvested in the rainforests of Brazil, açaí tastes like a vibrant blend of berries
and chocolate. Hidden within its royal purple pigment is the magic that makes it
nature's perfect energy fruit. Açaí is packed
full of antioxidants, amino acids and essential fatty acids...Acai pulp contains:
- A remarkable concentration of antioxidants that help combat
premature aging, with 10
times more antioxidants than red grapes and 10 to 30 times the anthocyanins of red
wine.
- A synergy of monounsaturated (healthy) fats, dietary fiber and phytosterols to help
promote cardiovascular and digestive health.
- An almost perfect essential amino acid complex in conjunction with valuable trace
minerals, vital to proper muscle contraction and regeneration.
– Oprah’s website, where Acai is ranked #1 on her list of ‘Ten Superfoods’ (Oct 2007) |
Incredible Antioxidant and Anthocyanins Levels.
Simply put, Acai is one of the highest antioxidant fruits in the
world. Acai has twice that of blueberries and 10 to 30 times the Anthocyanins
of red wine. The ORAC score for 100 grams of our freeze dried Acai powder is 34,000.
Free Radicals are unstable molecules with an unpaired electron that
can freely react with – and destroy – healthy cells. These destructive little
entities attack other molecules by capturing their electrons and thus modifying
chemical structures. This process is called oxidation.
Antioxidants are substances that neutralize Free Radicals, thus protecting
our healthy cells from being damaged. |
ORAC – Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity. ORAC measures the ability
of a substance to subdue oxygen free radicals. In short, ORAC is a measurement of
the antioxidant activity of a substance and gives it a number. The higher the ORAC
number, the stronger the antioxidant properties of the substance. |
Healthy Fats.
The Acai berry is very rich in healthy Omega fats. Nearly
1/3 of the Acai berry is fat – with 74% of the fat coming from healthy unsaturated
fats such as Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9.
Excellent Source of Fiber.
Acai is an excellent source of fiberan amazing 44.2
grams of fiber per 100 grams of Acai. This means a 68 gram serving of Acai would
provide all the recommended daily dietary fiber for an adult (30 grams of fiber).
Rich in Amino Acids and Protein.
7.59% of the weight of the Acai pulp is from amino acids. 19 different
amino acids have been identified in Acai. Since amino acids are the building
blocks of protein, it is no surprise that you have over 8 grams of protein in a
100 gram serving of Acai.
Excellent source of Plant Sterols.
Three plant sterols (or photosterols) have been identified in Acai – B-sitosterol,
campesterol and sigmasterol. Photosterols have been shown to have numerous health
benefits for maintaining healthy heart and digestive function.
Good source of Vitamins and Minerals.
Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C and E are all present in Acai.
In fact, Acai con tains as much Vitamin C as blueberries and has over 1000 IU of
Vitamin A for every 100 grams of Acai. In addition, potas sium, calcium, magnesium,
copper and zinc are all found in Acai.
Delicious Taste.
You would think anything this healthy must taste terrible – however, just the opposite
is true. Acai has a berry and chocolate flavor that is truly unique
and delicious. Acai is used in smoothies, deserts and can also be eaten
by itself.
It should be obviously clear to you – consuming antioxidants and high ORAC value
foods can have a tremendous impact on your health. Dietary supplements and natural
nutraceutical products can add phytonutrient insurance to your diet, a diet that
probably varies from day to day and may not always be “ideal”. |
UF Study Suggests Acai May Help Fight Cancer
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A Brazilian berry popular
in health food contains antioxidants that destroyed cultured human cancer cells
in a recent University of Florida study, one of the first to investigate the fruit’s
purported benefits.
Published today in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, the study showed
extracts from acai (ah-SAH’-ee) berries triggered a self-destruct
response in up to 86 percent of leukemia cells tested, said Stephen Talcott,
an assistant professor with UF’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences…

“I’m convinced…How do I get the best Acai?”
Unless you live in the Amazon rainforest, getting fresh Acai berries can be close
to impossible. You see, the Acai berry is highly perishable.
As we discussed above, the Acai berry is composed of 30 - 50% of healthy Omega fats.
Foods high in fat, however, go rancid (or spoil) very quickly. Due to their high
fat content, Acai berries go rancid within a day or two of being picked. What this
means is that it really isn’t feasible for fresh Acai berries to be exported. They
would go bad before they ever reached our fruit markets.
Fortunately, however, we have located a source that has developed a ‘flash freeze’
process that locks in the nutritional value of the Acai berry and allows it to be
exported for consumption outside of its native habitat:
1) Acai is fresh picked in the Amazon,
2) The pulp is then flash frozen and de-hydrated within 24 hours.
What you end up with is a freeze dried Acai powder that maintains
all the health benefits of fresh Acai. This freeze dried Acai powder
can then be put into capsules and provide a convenient way to enjoy Acai at any
time and any place. |
Is freeze dried Acai powder really “as good as fresh Acai”? From a nutritional stand
point, absolutely YES!
Our freeze dried Acai powder maintains the same nutrition profile as fresh Acai.
In fact, because freeze dried Acai is dehydrated (the water is removed), it has,
ounce for ounce, a much higher concentration of nutrients than fresh Acai.
The actual process we use to freeze dry Acai involves a 6.9 fold concentrate of
the 14% dried Acai pulp. What this means in English is that it takes about 6 grams
of Acai pulp to make 1 gram of Acai freeze dried powder. Result: 100 grams of fresh
Acai has an impressive antioxidant rating of 5,500 ORAC score, but 100 grams of
our freeze dried Acai powder has an amazing ORAC score of 34,000! |
BEWARE: Not all Acai supplements are created
equal!!
There are quicker, easier and cheaper ways to make Acai powder. However, the best
way is freeze drying.
Our freeze dried process does NOT use high heat nor does it introduce
any carry agents.
A cheaper way to process and make Acai supplements is called Spray Dried Acai. The
Spray Dried process involves heating the Acai to high temperatures to remove the
water and then spraying the Acai with “carry agents”, such as maltodextrin, to dry
it.
Spray Dried Acai is a terrible idea! This process is vastly inferior to freeze
drying.
The first problem with the spray dried process is that it requires heating the Acai
to very high temperatures. The issue is that the high temperatures destroy many
of the nutrients in the Acai.
The second problem is that the spray dried process involves using foreign carrier
agents, such as maltodextrin, to dry the Acai. In the end, 40% of the "Acai powder"
is actually maltodextrin. So, if you see a spray dried Acai supplement that claims
to have 500mg of Acai per capsule, it actually contains much less Acai than you
are led to believe – maybe only 300mg of actual Acai.
“But can’t I just look for Maltodextrin on the label of Acai products?”
You can look – but you will never find it! Since Maltodextrin is added during the
manufacturing process, it technically does not need to be listed as an ingredient
on the label. There is a loophole in the FDA labeling laws: since Maltodextrin is
a product of the manufacturing process and not an "added ingredient", it does NOT
need to be listed on the label.
"What about Acai Extracts and 4:1 Acai Concentrates?" An Acai Extract
makes no sense whatsoever …
The health value of the Acai berry comes from the whole fruit. There are so many
positive nutrients in the Acai berry, what exactly do you want to extract from the
Acai berry? In truth, you want the whole Acai berry – not just an ‘extract’ of it!
The other issue with extracts is that almost all are made from spray dried Acai.
The only thing worse than spray dried Acai is an extract of spray dried Acai. It
should then come as no surprise that the ORAC value of our freeze dried Acai has
tested 50 times as high as that of spray dried Acai extracts. |
Don't let phrases like "4:1" and "Super Concentrated Extract" fool you. You want
all the nutrients of the whole Acai berry, and you can only get this in pure freeze
dried Acai powder. |
Let’s assume that a company that advertises an Acai 4:1 Concentrate does not introduce
foreign substances like maltodextrin. This is still not an impressive product. Our
Acai uses a 6 to 1 concentrate of Acai pulp to powder. What this means to you is
that, on a gram per gram basis, you get 50% more Acai with ours than with 4:1 Acai
powders! |
Other suppliers will talk about how the Oprah Winfrey show did a piece on Dr. Perricone
and his recommendation of Acai. What other suppliers fail to mention
is that Dr. Perricone picked Sambazon as the premier source for purchasing Acai,
due to the purity and high concentration of Acai in Sambazon's products.
The only ingredient in our Acai is 100% Organic, Fair Trade Freeze Dried Sambazon
Acai. Here is some information on how Sambazon processes their Acai:
In June 2006, Sambazon inaugurated the world's largest Acai fruit receiving and
processing facility - situated right in the Brazilian Amazon. The facility adheres
to all GMP and FDA guidelines and has strict quality control. This means that fresh
Acai Berries picked in the Amazon are immediately (within 24 hours of being picked)
freeze dried right in the Amazon.
Sambazon Acai is covered by an independent third-party Hazard Analysis and Critical
Control Point (HACCP) plan. Both the Sambazon plant and drying
facility conduct annual food safety audits with the American Institute of Baking,
AIB. Both plants have received an "Excellent" rating. Sambazon Açaí is
OU Kosher, Fair Trade and certi fied organic. |
